Weekly Journal – Multiplexers and Shift Registers – Tyler Tilton

This week we worked with multiplexers and shift registers. It was very interesting to find out that an Arduino could be extended using these devices and one pin. Multiplexers can do inputs and outputs where as a shift register can only be one or the other depending on how they are set up.

This week we wired up a multiplexer according to a data sheet and a shift register after a short demonstration in class using us as the ones and zeros.

I didn’t really have any problems this week, the multiplexer and shift registers are kinda complicated at first, but once you get the hang of it, it seems straightforward.
